Miami’s Local Change
Starts With its High Schoolers
A high school summer internship to help a Miami community-based organization improve their social media exposure.
EngageLocal pairs talented high school students with non-profits for a one month program where the high school student will manage their social media end-to-end, with the aim to improve their followers, engagement, and impact.
Program Dates: July 1st - July 27th
What should high schoolers expect to do in the internship?
If a student is accepted, they will be paired with a local non-profit that aligns with their interest. The EngageLocal team will ensure that the non-profit is appropriately prepared for the high school summer intern.
In the duration of the program, the high school student should expect to be the primary point of contact with that non-profit. The student should partner to learn about their current social media strategies, content ideas, and needs of the organization. After that, the student will develop a social media strategy and run a 2-3 week sprint of managing their social media.
Students are allowed to participate in other programs during this time, however, will have an expectation to post for the non-profit at least 4 times a week.
About EngageLocal
EngageLocal was founded by Luisana Azpurua - a local high schooler - who has a passion for supporting community issues. She believes in the power of social media to help build awareness, organize individuals, and create impact.
But, local non-profits do not have the expertise and funds to create sophisticated social media following.
Thus, Luisana created EngageLocal. She first partnered with La Casita Foundation to support their social media for several weeks. She saw a dramatic improvement in followers and engagement, and knew other young people could do the same for causes they love.
We are excited to bring other high schoolers onboard for a month-long summer internship to help them gain professional experience in social media and support a cause they care about.
